Felt is a cloth made of wool and fur often mixed with natural or synthetic fibers through the action of heat, moisture, chemicals, and pressure.

Hot and soapy water makes the wool slippery, and causes scales on the fiber to open up. The scales prevent the fibers from backing up again after they slide across each other. With agitation the fibers tangle together. After cooling and drying, the scales close and lock the wool into the tough, durable material we call felt.
